Regimental Uniform Guidelines.

Below is a list of equipment and where to purchase it from. Documentation is provided where noted. The suttlers provided

are not necessarily the only source for such items, in most cases items can be made yourself.

Regimental Coat

Must be of madder red wool, with yellow facings, white domed pewter buttons.

Make your own coat, J.P. Ryan Pattern recommended.

For yellow facing wool, use Woolrich
'Bright lemon yellow'

Red wool small clothes

Linen Small Clothes

Alternative for warm weather.
Made from natural off-white Osnaburg linen. Domed pewter buttons.

Wool Breeches

Must be of madder red wool, close fitting,

fly front with domed pewter buttons.

Madder red wool, close fitting. Trimmed with regimental lace.

Regimental Lace

100%-Worsted Wool Twill Tape.

White with yellow stripe between 1 blue and 1 black zig-zag. White lace for sergeants. Around 18 yards required.

For the 44th regt. has pointed bastions. The blue zig-zag is on the inside of the bastion, and the black zig-zag is on the outside.

Regimental lace provided by the group.

Outside lace must be approved by the group.

Wool by the yard

Only the proper madder red wool is to be used by private soldiers, Sergeants and officers to use a higher quality scarlet.

Pewter Buttons

7/8" Domed pewter buttons for coat.

5/8" Domed pewter buttons for weskit.

Cocked Hat

1750's style cock.

Properly cocked over the left eye.

Hat lacing is black, hat Braid is white. A black Hannovarian cockade on the left side with a pewter button. Horse hair cockade preferred.

Shirts

Off-white linen. Blue chequed shirt also appropriate.

2 or 3 shirts recommended.

Neck Stock and Stock Buckle

1 black, 1 white cloth neck stock, 1 pair brass stock buckle.

Horse hair neckstock preferred.

18th Century glasses

Recommended if spectacle are needed. Contacts preferred!

Gaitors

1 brown pair of gaitors required, 1 black pair also recommended, 1 white pair also acceptable. Tight fitting, no baggy gaitors.

25-40 black horn buttons each. Gaitors must cover shoe buckles.

Garters

2 pair of garters, black leather with brass buckles

Stockings

Wool or cotton off-white over-the-knee socks.

Cotton is far more comfortable. 2 pair recommended.

Shoes

Black, straight lasted, Rough side out polished smooth.

Plain brass buckles, square or oval shaped.

Heel plates and hobnails recommended.

Leather Gear

Cartridge box, waistbelt, belly box with belt, musket sling

Must be of buff leather, Jarnagin's "Yellow Buff" preferred. All fixtures are brass, "Double DD buckles".

Cartridge Pouch

Buff leather strap, Box is of black leather.

Belly Box 12 holes, black panited wood with black leather flap. Plain flap or with embossed 'GR'.

Worn on a buff leather belt with brass buckle.

Waistbelt

'Yellow Buff' leather preferred, double frog for both bayonet and hanger

Haversack

Unbleached Osnaburg linen with leather strap & brass buckle.

Haversack should be stamped on the back side with a GR and Broad Arrow, as well as regimental markings if desired.

Haversack should be worn high up under the arm..

Canteen

'D' style canteen preferred, kidney style acceptable.

Tin canteen, no cloth covering, hemp cord preferred. Wooden stopper or formed tin cap only. No cork!

Knapsack

Brown goat-hide or cow-hide (hair on) , dark brown leather, 'Double DD' brass buckle.

Lined with Unbleached Osnaburg linen or unlined.

Knapsack to contain: 1 spare white shirt, 1 pair shoes, 1 pair stockings, 1 pair extra gaitors, 1 white neckstock, 1 hair comb, 1 coat brush, 1 clayball, 1 blackball, and all personal effects.

Blankets

"Off-white" wool blanket only.

The blanket should be marked with a GR and broad arrow.

Army surplus store.

Watch coat

Black wool watchcoat for rainy weather and picket duty.

Not required.

Musket

1st model brown bess is now commonly available and recommended.

2nd model is acceptable.

Must have a properly fitting bayonet with scabbard, fitting hammer-stall, plain brass or steel flash guard, and yellow buff leather sling.

Black leather scabbard with brass tip and locket.

Sword

Brass hilted infantry hanger.

Sword optional but recommended.

Shooting Accouterments

1 plain whisk & pick (with hair bristles), 1 musket tool, 1 worm, cleaning rag, oil bottle, at least 2 good clean flints.

WedgeTent

6x7x6 standard wedge tent with bell.

2 upright poles and 1 ridge pole.

Recommended that poles be painted yellow, the regimental facing color.
