Courtmartials and Deserter Descriptions
Montreal 4th June, 1761 The General Court Martial where of Col. Grant is president is dissolved. Thomas Gamble tried by the above courtmartial for abusing Major Beeworth of His Majestys 44th Regiment, in a most scandelous manner, and putting him in fear of his life by demanding satisfaction of him, in a most insolent manner, reproaching him with being a villain, is found not guilty of putting Major Beeworth in fear of his life as is alleged against him, but is found guilty of insulting Major Beeworth when the said Major was Commanding Officer in the district where it happened, and is therefor adjudged publically to askid Major Beeworth's pardon before any number of officers whom His Excelency the Governor shall appoint in the following words: "Major Beckworth, I am very sorry that in my passion I expressed myself to you in an insulting terms, and beg your pardon for the same before these gentleman present," and further is ajudged to leave the Government of Montreal.
